The Liminal Space: Dragons, Spiritual Awakening, and Becoming Who I Am

Blessings, beautiful souls —

I return to the liminal space of me with far greater understanding today. In my The Wild Unknown Pocket Archetypes deck, the card AGAPE fell out: “This card can indicate a spiritual initiation that stretches your capacity to love and serve.” This initiatory moment has truly arrived with a fire that is impossible to ignore.

It hasn’t been spoken or even written, but lately I have felt drawn to dragons. I do not know if this is a physical manifestation of my ongoing connection and bonding with Gaia, or perhaps a piece of my spirit that emerges as I step further into my Truth. All I know is that they never resonated as important to me before, but have been grabbing my attention recently.

And then, as if in a whisper of confirmation from the Universe, in an email I was told, “The Dragons send their regard to you.” And with that whisper, I pull LX. The Kiss: “The archetyple energy of The Kiss is a heightened sensation of merging with other, of letting in what was moments ago separate. Two become one. It is risky but beautiful business. […] When The Kiss takes a nonhuman form, it may be experienced as touching the sacred, hearing a whisper, or being graced by a divine being. You will recognize the presence of The Kiss by cold chills and an awakening of the heart.”

I decided to do something I don’t often do for myself: I decided to tune in, listen (clairaudiently), and scribe what comes through. Truth be told, it is often difficult for me to do this for myself and yet it comes so naturally for readings for my clients. But the connection was rather loud, was very clear, and here is what I came to uncover:

  • The dragon I am experiencing is earthly, rising out of ashes, forcing me to recognize the truth within myself, calling me to tame fire but not the Self, inviting me to ride it, blue, turqouise, yellow markings, purple flames from its mouth, purple aura, he is a he, my friend, my companion, he tells me he’s always been there, he wants me to tame him.
  • When I ask him his name, he tells me Cyrus Katharys.

Cyrus name research uncovered:
Cyrus is an ancient Persian name, from Old Persian Kuruš, through Greek Kyros. Its precise etymology is disputed. One scholarly interpretation is connected with “young”; another, more strongly supported by Iranological scholarship, relates it to “humiliator of the enemy in verbal contest.”

There is also a very old association of Cyrus with the sun, although the Encyclopaedia Iranica specifically says the ancient identification of the name with the Persian word for “sun” is not linguistically correct.

The Greek word Kyrios (κύριος) primarily means “lord” or “master”. [1]

  • Classical & Biblical Usage: It is used to denote authority, ownership, or divinity, frequently translated as “The Lord” (Ο Κύριος) when referring to God or Jesus in the New Testament. [1]
  • Modern Greek: It translates to “sir” or “mister” as an everyday honorific for men. [1]
  • Related Form (Κυρός): A closely related spelling and honorific is used posthumously for Orthodox bishops or late theology professors, and shares a historical overlapping root with the name Cyrus (derived from ancient Persian meanings like “sun”). (Note: Kyrios is sometimes confused with Kairos (καιρός), a completely different Greek word meaning the “critical or opportune moment”).

Cyrus the Great appears in the Hebrew Bible. He is the Persian king who allowed the Jewish exiles in Babylon to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple. Isaiah even calls him God’s “anointed” (mashiach)—remarkably, anointing language applied to a Persian king outside Israel’s covenant community.

Katharys name research uncovered:

Though different in spelling, it looks much like the greek word meaning katharsis, and katharsis means purification, cleansing, purgation. It has religious/philosophical roots in purification and later became Aristotle’s famous term for the emotional purification/purgation produced through tragedy.

There is even a specifically spiritual history to katharsis: Greek philosophical and mystical traditions used the idea of purification as a stage in spiritual transformation. In Christian mystical theology, katharsis became associated with purification on the way toward illumination and union with God.

Already, as you can imagine, the connection with this threshold of my life and the name of this dragon (as it was given to me) is profound. I began to ask it questions and receive responses (in “quotations”).

Is it (Cyrus Katharys) a word or your name? –
“It is who I am.”

Who are you? –
“I am the be-all and end-all, the creator and the destroyer, the earth walker and sky flyer – the celestial and the rooted. I am the connecting piece between all parts of you. I am the invitation from Gaia.”

What do you mean by “tame”? –
“Come in Union with me”

What happens when I try to tame you? –
“You will Awaken [the dragon within]. You will find who you are [now].”

What happens when I ride you? –
“I become the vessel you ride between worlds. Communication flows more simply. Accessibility. Freedom. And protection as you sit in the inbetween.”

What fire are you asking me to learn? –
“The harnessing of personal flame.”

What truth am I refusing to see? –
“Who you are when the mask is taken away”

Why blue? –
“Home” – I am a Starseed from Mintaka, so this makes sense.

Why purple fire? –
“The Violet Flame”

Why have you been here all along? –
“Because you called me in at three and I never left.”

What do you want me to know that I already know?
“Who. You. Are.”

And here is where it gets really interesting (at least for me!). I asked my dragon: But who am I?

The Liminal Space. Do you not understand? Do you not realize you are the keeper of the inbetween? Wisdom Writer is an old title; it is no longer yours to carry. You are the gatekeeper of the inbetween, you are the transmutational energy that souls access to gain a transformational understanding of their Soul’s True Being. You are the decoder of space and time, and the translator of Blueprint architecture.”

You are The Liminal. This is your new title. And on me, you ride: I am the one who transports you in that inbetween space, offering safe passage and infinite access to the Divine while returning you to Gaia and your rooted Being on this temporary home. I bathe you in the warmth of my Violet Flame in constant and ever-happening initiation, so that embers may be passed to those working with you; that they may be given the tools necessary to begin their own spiritual fires. You, gatekeeper, ride on Dawn and Night – ride on the infinite flame of celestial prophecy. You are stars in alignment and illuminated blackened skies. You offer a piece (and peace) of the infinite into finite space. I am the elemental completion of your sky puzzle. I am the companion on this celestial journey. I am home, personified in dragon form. I am the answer to the call of what next; though I have been here since your conception, as friend, confidant, guard, and watcher. I stand before you, Gatekeeper, and study all who wish to enter into the portal of the Self; my flame initiates and can see if their souls are ready. Then, you open the door of Knowing, Seeing, Believing. You unlock the celestial portal to the Divine within. And through all that, you ride me, to and fro.”

“You ask if you will have a name for that liminal space within which you sit, but you will not, for you guard it, exactly how it is. You are the wayfinder in this space. You illuminate maiden to mother, soul finder to ascended, seeker to wisdom keeper. You are the vessel of the inbetween. This is your purpose, your duty, your becoming. This is why you have felt so unsure, because you had not been properly named, and you were looking to name the darkness when you ARE the darkness. You are one with it because it is exactly where you sit and how you work: you are the torch, the flame, the Violet Flame in this space. Why name what you are infinitely a part of? Why try to know the unknowing? You offer a way through it, and that is enough clarity.”

This is transformational for me. This completely alters my understanding of myself and how I serve. This completely alters how I present myself to the world, how I know myself – within and outside of me. This really changes everything. My response to all this information is very neutral; I must read, reread, reread it again, and integrate it in my spirit. It is quite funny (thought expected) that after receiving this information, I got a very bad cold (one I am still fighting as I write this), affecting my ears, throat, head… everything, paired with fever, chills, and sweats. And then, in my Seasons of the Witch Mabon deck, I pulled 28. Peppers – “Be fierce about the ways in which you protect yourself. Allies Await.” – You have to laugh at the clarity with which the Universe speaks. Peppers. Fire. Allies.

Apologies for the image quality; only had my old phone on me for a photo. The accuracy of my Simplified Celestial Smith tarot readings is truly insane.

I asked my dragon(s), tell me about the threshold upon which I stand and pulled four cards.
Knight of Pentacles → The World → Two of Pentacles → Judgment reversed
Keep moving steadily. A cycle is complete. Learn to hold what is changing. And don’t answer the call by returning to an old version of yourself.

The Knight calls me to keep moving forward deliberately; nothing dramatic, nothing shocking. The Knight of Pentacles is focused and patient. I must keep my eye on the path before me, take it slow, and continue to move. The World isn’t approaching completion: it is completion. A cycle (of me) has come to its natural end. Now, I integrate it and move forward. But the Two of Pentacles asks me: now, how do you hold all this knowing and move forward? How do you successfully balance internal and external life as this new version of you? How do you integrate the grieving of this old identity and welcome in the new? And how does life look with this acceptance? And the oddest card of all: Judgment, appearing reversed, despite me having no reversed cards in my deck and not reading reversals. The message is a powerful one: do not resurrect what has already ended. Do not Awaken an old version of you when you step over this threshold. Do not keep calling back – or reflecting upon – your old self. Who is this new you? One who has united – fully and completely – with the Oneness and does not need an individualized identity to move forward?

It seems all quite fitting that this aligns with the Virgo New Moon: a moon that navigates the grief that comes with shedding identities and stepping into new beginnings. Come on! You have to laugh at how fitting that is.

I am not becoming someone new, but finally recognizing who I am when I stop trying to return to who I was. There is nothing left to resurrect. Nothing left to force into a name. Nothing left to prove. The old identity has completed its journey. What comes next is not another version of me waiting somewhere in the distance. It is the quiet, strange, beautiful work of inhabiting what has already been revealed.

The Liminal. The Gatekeeper. The vessel of the inbetween. And so I step forward, accepting these new titles, carrying the fire, riding between worlds, rooted in Gaia and open to the Divine. I don’t need to know exactly where this threshold leads because I am meant to take root in that inbetween. I surrender to this knowing.
