When Your Body Says No: Listening to Physical Reactions to Flower Essences

Blessings, beautiful souls —

Flower essences are an important part of my spiritual practice, so much so that I created an oracle and tarot deck with flower essences as the central focus of the deck. As I have written before, flower essences are subtle vibrational remedies created by capturing the energetic imprint of a flower in water. Unlike essential oils, which are concentrated physical extracts of plant material and carry the plant’s aroma, flower essences contain no scent and no physical plant extract. They are traditionally used to support emotional, energetic, and spiritual well-being.

There are many companies that create flower essence blends, which are a combination of multiple essences in one, and there are also additional components considered such as what astrological or celestial sky the essence is cultivated under, or whether specific crystals, pyramids, or rainbow frequencies are influencing the water used to distill the essence. Some of these essences are so powerful that it’s recommended you take them on their own rather than in combination with other essences.

Recently, I began using Mer-Kah-Bah by Crystal Herbs UK. They write, “The Mer-Ka-Ba is the spiritualised auric field merged with the higher self, and can only be activated when the heart chakra is fully open. Mer-Ka-Ba activation allows us to dematerialise or teleport the physical body from one location to another; a process used by advanced beings, Ascended Masters etc. The Me-Ka-Ba essence can only re-awaken and activate the Light Body when all the issues covered by the other essences in the set have been worked with. […] The Rainbow Light Body Essences are very high frequency, finely tuned clearing and activation tools designed to assist in the development of our Light Body or Mer Ka Ba. Each of the essences in this set was created by a unique process resulting in a set of twelve very powerful essences that provide exactly the support we need now as we seek to assimilate higher & higher frequencies of Light into our energetic systems.”

Sometimes the body speaks first.

I began taking this essence after our return from our family Disney trip. I immediately began to notice that I was anxious, I was in a generally uncomfortable mood, I was short-tempered, and I had heart palpitations. I also found myself feeling overwhelmed and anxious at the thought of sitting to engage in something (like reading an article, watching a video, etc. – I felt myself drawn to distraction as a way to disconnect). At first, I associated this with a post-Disney crash (it’s a real thing). But today, it clicked: maybe it’s this essence. I didn’t dismiss the experience simply because I expected the essence to be spiritually beneficial.

Too much doesn’t necessarily mean bad.

Just because this essence is too much for me right now doesn’t mean that this essence or flower essences in general are bad; it just means I am not at the point in my life where this frequency is beneficial for me. I needed to listen to my body, and I immediately took a more grounding flower essence to bring stillness to the overwhelm (Water Violet). It worked, further confirming this was a flower essence frequency miscalibration and not post-Disney blues.

Sometimes spirituality asks us to ignore the body.

One toxic aspect of spiritual communities is that they often gaslight us or ask us to suffer through discomfort, claiming our bodies are going through a clearing or recalibrating or activating to handle the frequency. And while some of this guidance might be well-intentioned, they shouldn’t automatically override a physical warning.

My body wasn’t asking me to push through. After three days of discomfort, it was asking me to recognize why and stop.

My body was telling me I wasn’t ready for this flower essence, and I listened to that warning. We can be spiritually curious about an experience without automatically deciding that every uncomfortable physical reaction is spiritually necessary. It’s not that I’m not ready or attuned to the essence, it’s not that I’m advanced enough, it’s just – quite clearly – not what my body and spirit need at this moment and it was telling me so. There is a difference between being able to handle discomfort as a way to heal and being uncomfortable without meaning or solution.

Flower essences are not a competition – it’s a journey with your spiritual self.

There’s sometimes an unconscious tendency to gravitate toward:

  • the strongest essence
  • the highest frequency
  • the deepest clearing
  • the most transformative experience

But spiritual practice doesn’t have to be about more intensity. Deeper isn’t always better. Stronger isn’t always better. Sometimes gentler is exactly what we need. After a pretty intense vacation, clearly my body wanted something quieter and more grounding – so that’s where I’m headed in my practice.

Record your experience with flower essences to better understand what your body and spirit need.

I encourage you to keep a little record when trying a new essence. This turns the practice into observation rather than expectation.
Before:
How do I feel physically and emotionally?
After:
What changed?
Timing:
How quickly did I notice it?
Duration:
How long did it last?
After stopping:
Does the experience change?

And if it doesn’t energetically vibe with you, just stop. You don’t need a why to say, nope – not right now. Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is stop trying to transcend the body and come back into it. Pay attention. Don’t override yourself simply because you believe something is supposed to be good for you, spiritually, or because someone said it would amplify your Ascension process. I always say: there are no quick fixes or shortcuts to Ascension, and don’t believe anything or anyone who says otherwise. Yes, Ascension symptoms are real – but we don’t need to force ourselves into discomfort to get there quicker.

Our spiritual practices should bring us into a deeper relationship with ourselves, not further away from our bodies. Flower essences can be beautiful companions on that journey, but we are still the ones doing the listening, discerning, and choosing. Your body is part of your spiritual wisdom. When it says no, listen. When it asks you to slow down, slow down. There is no prize for pushing past your own boundaries in the name of growth. The journey is yours, and learning to trust yourself along the way may be one of the most important forms of spiritual practice there is.

Flower essences are intense and exceptionally valuable spiritual tools. If you’re feeling nothing from one, it’s not what you need. If you’re feeling too much, it’s not what you need either. You’ll find that perfect balance with a little research and guidance – or maybe even through a perfect pull of one of my oracle cards.
