Blessings, beautiful souls —
Family vacation in Disneyland Paris is over. Back into the groove of reality. Always feels good to be home; this image rings true for me (both because it’s a lady reading a book surrounded by chickens but also because I love my home and everyday life):
I came home to two decks waiting for me in the mail. First, my own creation, fleurs celeste – a flower essences oracle and tarot deck, and second, an older deck that just recently started speaking to me, Pocket Archetypes by Kim Kras. And since my new (but classic) favourite routine is to interview any decks that come into my life, this morning I dove in with the pair, and here is what emerged.
Starting with fleurs celeste, I didn’t ask this deck to tell me about itself and what I need to know about it because I created it! I know the heart and soul of this deck and what it embodies, and I know the magic it possesses as well. It really turned out so beautiful, and my husband was really impressed wth it, as well.
First, I noticed there were no full or new moons in this reading, meaning this is a deck that will help me through transition periods, the in-between, the clarity when I am feeling most lost or confused.
Why have you come into my life at this point? – Mistletoe/Five of Swords – When I asked this question, I wondered about it’s purpose for me as a personal and professional deck, as well as why I was inspired to make it. The answer is very clear: it is meant to be a tool that illuminates my spiritual path. As a tarot card, Five of Swords represents battle, so this deck wishes to be the clarity that helps me avoid it entirely.
How will we work together? – Burdock/Four of Cups – As a tarot card, this represents missing out on what the Universe hands to you because you are too focused on lack and the past. This deck tells me that it will help me cut through all of that and reclaim the energy I need to create meaningful spiritual work for myself and others.
How will you challenge me? – Vine/Ten of Pentacles – This deck will force me to look at, study, and recognize the wisdom of generations before me as a way to help define my path. It will pull me outside of myself to seek nourishment, which can be especially difficult for an introvert.
What do you think about me? – Skullcap/The Star – This one made me a bit emotional because The Star is my card (and I was just talking to my husband about it yesterday, saying I would like to get it as a tattoo). My deck, the deck I created, sees me exactly how I wish to be seen, and I am touched. It sees me as a light in the darkness that is meant to illuminate the internal world for others, that nourishes through this illumination.
How will our journey begin with one another? – Rock Water/King of Pentacles – The deck has shown me how we will begin by sharing the last card I created in the deck, the only card that doesn’t have a botanical image but rather focuses on the glorious Bach’s original Rock Water essence. In essence, it tells me that our journey will begin by breaking free of any barriers or chains that keep us in our limited understanding. This deck will illuminate for me all the positive aspects of the King of Pentacles (organized, focused, grounded leader) and eliminate all the negative (rigid, stubborn, stuck in old ways).
Next, with the Pocket-sized Archetypes deck by Kim Kras, I started the interview by asking Tell me about yourself and what I need to know about you and peeked at the Teacher Card (the card at the bottom of the deck) – GNOSIS – The deck is telling me that wisdom will arise from lived experience; in order to learn more about this deck, I need to work with it frequently, I need to feel it, play with it, pull cards, sit with them. And this feels accurate already because, truth be told, this deck does feel like a challenging one to work with right away. The meanings written for the cards are multi-layered and I do find that Kim tends to have a bit of a shadow reading for most cards; I will try to break through that with my own interpretation. This deck begins by telling me to study it; that is the only way to unravel who and what it is and how to best know it.
Why have you come into my life at this point? – ANIMA MUNDI – In the guidebook, it says, “This card indicates an initiation on the level of the soul. You will awaken the unique light within and witness how this light contributes to the radiance of the entire universe.” This deck has arrived to help me amplify my connection to the Oneness and my knowing of being entwined within that Oneness. It is here to help me feel what is beyond me in a new way.
How will we work together? – THE CRONE – “The Crone is the master of letting go and residing in what is.” This deck will teach me how to surrender to what it wishes to show me, how to embrace and embody the magic within myself, and how to let go of dualistic notions and instead open myself up to the potential of the infinity.
How will you challenge me? – THE JUDGE – Truth me told, I already feel like this deck is challenging me with its messages, imagery, and sharp tongue. This deck tells me that it will force me to be more discerning, to step out of any fear-driven righteousness, and to be a judge of myself before I can judge the world.
What do you think about me? – THE HEALER – I am honoured to be seen in this way. Out of so many wonderful archetypes in this deck, to be gifted this card, The Healer, feels really touching to me. The deck sees me as “self-contained, grateful, and awake.” It says that I do not journey on a linear path, recognizing my opportunity to heal myself and others can exist all around me.
How will our journey begin with one another? – EROS – The deck wants to play with me, form a bond of love and understanding, and have our journey be one of passion. The guidebook says, “Eros allows us to momentarily unite. Our heart embraces Otherness, and in doing so we further understand our own. Our life force awakens. This card reveals an inevitable invitation into love’s labyrinth.” While I do have a little fear about where this deck may take me, I am being called to surrender to the journey and fall in love with it.
What strikes me most about this little deck interview is how differently these two decks have introduced themselves to me. One is something I brought into being myself, my own study, intuition, and intention, while the other is a deck I barely knew or was called to until recently and am still learning how to understand. And yet, both seem to be pointing me toward the same thing: deeper trust in my own inner knowing.
We don’t simply ask tarot and oracle decks questions and receive answers; over time, we develop a relationship with them. They challenge our ways of seeing, reflect things we aren’t quite ready to acknowledge, and sometimes show us parts of ourselves we didn’t realize were there.
Coming home from vacation, it feels fitting that this is where I am returning to; not just my routines, but the practices that help me feel most connected to myself. I’m curious to see what these two decks reveal as that relationship unfolds, and I’m even more curious about what other people discover when they take the time to truly get to know their decks.
