Blessings, beautiful souls —
When I was 17 years old, my parents hosted a New Year’s Eve party for their friends and neighbours and invited my best friend (at the time) and her family. One of the people they invited was our neighbour and friend, whom we will call Bob. Bob told me he could see ghosts, that his house was haunted (… it was a new build), and that he could read people’s auras and energy.
On this night, while under the influence of alcohol (red flag), he invited my friend and me to a quieter space to read us both. There, he told my friend she was glowing with white light, was super gifted, and was going to talk to the deceased for others in her future. When I asked him to do me, he told me he saw nothing there. In fact, he told me I was closed off and disconnected.
Now, for a little context, this was his first time meeting my friend, and I was already in the process of my first reawakening, where the non-fiction books I was reading were all centered on spirit, and I had been reading tarot since I was 12 years old. Hearing this from him hurt me. There wasn’t any jealousy toward my friend because I knew gifts weren’t limited, but my Ego got a hit from his words.
Looking back on this, it’s obviously laughable considering what I do for a living, but I wonder the reason. Was it to keep my Ego in check, and was that a lesson from the Universe? Or was this a nefarious energy at play that intended to keep my gifts small and silenced so the world wouldn’t have a chance to heal from my work? Considering I never liked the energy of this individual and doubted his “abilities,” I do lean towards the latter. I also wonder if me being “hard to read” was actually my guides protecting me from seeing who I really was.
I have said it before, but I am not special. We all have gifts and a grander purpose in this life. All our gifts look different, and not all of us are meant to make a career out of it, but all of our gifts are intended to increase the vibration of the planet Earth. When someone tells you that you have no gifts to offer, that you are nothing special, that there’s nothing there for you, that’s an attempt to diminish your personal power and spiritual connection to Source. That is the fear of nefarious energies at just how powerful you and your gifts truly are. Period.
Do I think he was lying about my friend and her connection with the deceased? No, but he was reading her under the influence of alcohol, and that’s terrible spiritual etiquette and dangerous. Do I think he was lying about me? Yes.
My former friend, last time I checked, is not doing mediumship work; I am. Something knew this would be my career path, my soul vocation, and that frightened them. The attempt to stifle that aspect of me during a very vulnerable stage in my life (brain transformations during adolescence) is pretty scary. What if I embodied that message of, I’m not special, I have no gifts to offer the planet?
Many people do; many people center on that fear, and it becomes their identity – and this world could do with more healers, not less.
So, this is me telling you: whoever told you you weren’t special, whoever told you that you are disconnected from Spirit, whoever told you that communication with something beyond is not for you, is not your path, and isn’t something you can learn and develop lied to you.
Helping people understand this about themselves and Awaken to their True and most Highest version of themselves is what I love to do. I want you to unlearn all the fearful lies you’ve been taught and step into your Highest Self.
You are not here by accident, and your gifts were never a mistake; they are an invitation. Trust what calls you, nurture it gently, and watch how your light begins to ripple far beyond what you thought possible
