Manifesting Home: How the Universe Delivered a Dream Better Than Imagined

In early February of last year, I wrote about House 105. I wrote about her with such passion and envisioned her with such intensity, and I never really understood why.

It is clear to me that I had a soul longing for a home that was our own.

And now we have one.

We are homeowners together for the first time. I have officially made the transition from expat to immigrant since this solidified my place here and removed all my assets from Canada through this investment.

No more renting. No more occupying the space of another temporarily. We have a place where we can bury roots and find ourselves. We’ve arrived in her on a Full Moon in Libra, on the first day of Pesach. And the home is beyond anything I imagined with 105, but still has the pieces of her that I visualized and longed for.

The home we found is tremendously old but so very much alive. It was an farm house of over 100 years that was renovated into the three story (two, by French standards) home it is today. What was once a farmer’s dark storage space with stairs leading to a kitchenette and a bedroom, with high-beamed ceilings and clay tiled roof was transformed into a six bedroom home, with ample open spaces, and an additional half-renovated grange (barn) attached that’s just waiting for us to turn her into the space of our dreams. It also has air conditioning and solar panels — AC in France; can you believe it!?

Like I imagined with House 105, there was not much work to be done with our new home. Having been used as an AirBnB for a few years now, it was meticulously taken care of. The renovations we did to her are minor and quick and mostly make her ours. Switching all the light features (those were fun to buy!). Changing a little flooring. Some fresh paint. Just little lifts that will help her stand out and freshen her up for us.

And just like I imagined with House 105, we have a glorious kitchen – with an enormous gas stove that has three separate ovens – with windows looking out into our backyard. Our backyard is completely private, with the only view being a gate to the unused farmland behind us. Just over the fence is access to a trail in a forest. It doesn’t get more serene than that.

In fact, the location is beyond anything I could have imagined – and far better than the uphill streets we were living on. We are back in Haute Savoie and back in the French Alps (rather than the Jura Mountains) – this time, settling at the top with an endless valley view and snow-peaked mountains where the valley ends. It’s down a completely empty and quiet street, with only six or so families calling it home. Our neighbours are four horses (literally). It is like being isolated while having access to the (amenity-packed) town in just a 5-minute drive, and reaching Annecy in twenty.

While this home may not have the built-in bookshelves I imagined, that will be where I allow my creativity to blossom when we move forward with renovating the barn. In the meantime, the 1st floor (2nd, by North American standards) has an enormous foyer space, illuminated by a huge skylight, and I have bought the furniture to help bring my vision for the most ideal office space and library. And it does have a bedroom balcony that overlooks the glorious and peaceful valley.

This house took 6 months of navigating French bureaucracy. Six. Months. As someone who bought a house in 2 days in Canada, and moved in two months later, there was nothing easy or stress-free about the way the French navigate home buying. It is certainly not for the weak. But it was the fourth house we saw, and it immediately felt like home to the both of us (and three, including R). We signed the final papers and got the keys just after the energetic Feng Shui shift into Period 9, which is very auspicious!

According to my spiritual advisor Carol at Akasha’s Den (in Oakville), this house is protected by the Archangels who sit at every compass point. It’s also watched over and blessed by Ascended Master Mary. I was told not to cleanse it with sage but to use Palo Santo or rose water. I look forward to setting up all my icons in my new office space as well. Apparently, it (the house) chose us just as much as we chose her.

Now, when I look at House 105, I see all the headaches she would actually give us: the requirement of a new roof, new windows, no electric shutters, a yard that would need bi-yearly (expensive) professional maintenance, a town I do not enjoy walking around… The veil is lifted, and instead, we have been gifted a place that’s ready for us, that’s been made our own through a few tweaks and changes, that brings us back into a region where we feel more at home.

When we set a dream in our hearts, the Universe listens – and amplifies it so it becomes something even better for us, our needs, our growth. All we need to do is be patient and keep trusting as we continue to walk forward. I am so excited to watch the sunrise and set in this new home, to hear laughter echo through her, to hear my son’s tiny feet running up and down her stairs and climbing into the loft/nook in his playroom. It’s wonderful to finally set roots after six and a half years together and six different moves. Nomad life has finished; now it’s time to love and grow where we are planted.

And what a beautiful place to be planted… thank you, Universe.
