Top Spiritual Non-Fiction Books to Start Your Journey: Recommendations for Awakening and Ascension

Inspired by a conversation I had with an Awakened Mama Community member Hannah, I decided to share a list of my favourite spiritual non-fiction texts when starting your spiritual journey. Following another incredible past life regression session with psychotherapist, Margot Borden, it seems even more important to me to help guide others on a path of Ascension. As we head into a new month and come storming into Leo season with some fiery heat, this post felt like a fitting way to help you dip your toes into living a more spiritual life.

Here, in no particular order, are some great high-vibing reads to get your feet wet.

The Transformational Path: How Healing, Unlearning, and Tuning Into Source Helped Me Manifest My Most Abundant Life by Claudia Amendola Alzraa

Yeah, listen: I know this is my book. But honestly it’s the book I wish I had when I was starting my reawakening, which is why I’m sharing it at the top of my list! And I’m not the only person who feels that way; reviews across the board have said it’s like having a good friend holding your hand and showing you the hidden path to live your best life. If you’re wondering why there’s a calling inside of you saying, is there more to this life? this book will help you answer that question — because there is.

One reviewer stated, “I am forever changed and I didn’t think that it would bring out so much in me, and it was exactly what I needed to read because I have to make some changes and I need to make them all in the same breath. I cannot explain the way in which I feel after reading your book. […] I am living and breathing because of my dear friend Claudia. This book didn’t just change me it brought me back to life, after decades of flat lining and repeated attempts at resuscitation. Is this what breathing feels like? If so I think I like it.” (Goosebumps!)

Light is the New Black by Rebecca Campbell

Despite it’s very girly appearance and general writing geared towards the feminine, I do think this is a phenomenal starting point for people feeling a call. It was one of the first books I picked up when I felt called back to my spirit and started my “side gig” (now primary gig) Seeking Celestial Grace. In easy-to-digest small essay format, this is a quick read and a valuable one. It travelled with me from Canada, though I haven’t read it in five years, because it felt important enough to hold a place on my shelf.

Only Love is Real: A Story of Soulmates Reunited by Dr. Brian Weiss

Interesting fact: my past life regression therapist, Margot Borden, was trained by Dr. Weiss (twice!). This is the perfect starting point for people who are curious about past lives and primary soulmates. The transcript of Dr. Weiss’s session with two clients who don’t know eachother but happen to be experiencing exactly the same lives is such a beautiful reminder that nothing in life is by chance; it’s all Divine intercession. I also recommend Many Lives, Many Masters by the same author. Get ready to fall into the past lives hole — weeeee!

The Yoga of Jesus – Understanding the Hidden Teachings of the Gospels by Paramahansa Yogananda

If you come from a predominantly Western religious background and are interested in Eastern religious philosophies but are having difficulty melding the two worlds, this is a fantastic place to start. Everything by Yogananda is incredible, but this mix of the teachings of Jesus and the Baghavad Gita is phenomenal and proves that Truth is Universal.

The Baghavad Gita 101 by Matthew Barnes

Since we’ve dipped our toes in Eastern talk, this book is definitely worth the read if you’re looking for Universal Truths that can help you better live your life. It’s the most approachable take on the Baghavad Gita that I’ve had the pleasure of reading, and I also continued with Barnes’ series by reading Upanishads 101, as well.

The Lightworker’s Source: An Enlightening Guide to Awaken the Power Within by Sahvanna Arienta

Do you feel a soul calling to do more for this planet? Are you unsatisfied in your life and think there’s more for you out there but you’re not sure why you feel this way? Do you feel unexplainably depressed or “stuck” no matter what you do? You might be a lightworker – like me! This book will resonate with your spirit as you start your journey to Ascension if you have a lot of “why”s without many answers.

Angels 101 by Doreen Virtue

Doreen Virtue has become an evangelical Christian and, since 2017, renounced all her previous writings. But Universal Truth remains that, universally true, regardless of whether you’ve been pulled into a cult of extremism post-writing or not. This is the book that helped me truly connect with angels and archangels who are spiritual beings and masters who wish to assist us when we call on them. I’m a big fan of all the books in her angels series (Archangel Michael, Archangel Gabriel, etc.), but you may need to buy them from secondhand websites like World of Books, now.

Journey of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton

I wouldn’t necessarily call this book a “beginner’s book” because it’s so profound and truly packed full of spiritual information, but it’s too good not to slap onto the list. Read the linked blog post above to get a rundown of some of the topics you can expect in the book.

This feels like a good foundation for your journey. Of course, there are so many more authors that deserve recognition and attention as you delve into your spiritual purpose, but I’ll save those for another day. I also shared more book lists like this one with the website Shepherd.com and they have books that haven’t made this list which may interest you.

Do you have a book that was central to your Awakening journey that is worth sharing with the Collective? Drop it in the comments, I’m eager to hear it!
