The existence of past lives and an afterlife is undeniable. It has nothing to do with God (though there is one Super Source) or heaven and hell (though there is the “bliss” review space and the “classroom” if we are being particular), but energy. Even folks with a steadfast relationship with Science cannot deny the existence of energy.
In fact, the law of conservation of energy in physics states, quite plainly, that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it only changes. With this in mind, the energy of the human body (the soul) must change at death. It does not cease to exist; it merely changes forms.
But convincing you of a continuation of the soul is not my goal with this post. I don’t preach to convert; I write to teach, so how you digest this information is your prerogative. My purpose with this post is twofold: first, to clarify the blending of past lives with present lives and how that influences relationships, behaviours, and even ailments. Second, to share tips on how to recognize and harmonize these influences for a more balanced and fulfilling life. There is a theme in your life, and knowing it will help you navigate the journey.
I am sure at some point in your life, you have seen a person and felt like you just knew them right off the bat. This isn’t a coincidence (there’s no such thing), and deja vu is not just a cliche. It’s all real, and it’s all part of your soul helping you remember pieces of your life that are central to present-day lessons. When I met my husband, I looked into his eyes and honestly thought to myself, I know him. And after twenty minutes of speaking to him, I confirmed, Ah, it’s him, my Divine Counterpart. We have spent many lives with one another, and we have returned together again.
In fact, recognizing him really helped solidify a lot about my past: why I felt instantly at home in Paris on my first visit after all my years of traveling around the world (he was there), why it pained my very essence to think that I might not ever live my life there (I needed to find him), and why in my youth I used to joke about hating France and the French language (I had to combat internalized – and invalid – prejudice to see if I would challenge my Spirit).
He is not the first person with whom I felt Soul Memories. I have found Soul Family a few times, and each encounter with these people has been heart-centered, Awakening, and sacred. I immediately love them as if we have known one another all our lives – and we have! All our Soul Lives! They are familiar without having been known before on this plane. I can even recall a situation where I saw a Soul Family’s pictures now, in their youth when we should have known one another, and even younger than that when we definitely did not know one another at all. Yet, that youngest photo was the most familiar of all. Perhaps because we shared childhood innocence with one another in past lives, who knows — I don’t think I’ll ever understand it. But my soul knew them.
I have also encountered Karmic Connections a few times. These are people with whom I have unfinished business or who teach me lessons about life. In all honesty, they’re usually low vibrational and appear with the intention to close whatever timeline we shared with one another. They generally act as they did in a past life – unrequited love, toxic behaviour, narcissistic, etc. – as a reminder of what I have already experienced with them and as a challenge to my soul self with how I will handle it, this time around.
You will find a central theme in your present life. Most of my lessons in this lifetime have been focused on forgiveness and navigating true forgiveness, which comes from the heart center and is founded upon the energy of Love (the God energy). Fear is the opposite of love, and the challenge we often face in our lifetimes is whether we will approach learning a lesson through a lens of fear or a lens of love.
As I mentioned, our past lives may also tie us to present ailments. We can free ourselves of these ailments in this present life through past life regression, acknowledgment, and release of the traumatic soul memory. Dr. Brian Weiss has done this with numerous patients. For example, I know that my asthma in this present lifetime relates to suffocation in a past life (or lives — I am more inclined to believe lives). I haven’t narrowed down or addressed the emotions of these past lives and this trauma. However, I am sure one is related to smoke while being burned during the Salem era, and another is related to someone holding a hand over my mouth until I was unable to breathe. There are likely more pieces I have to put together, and despite having the feeling of where this asthma originated, I haven’t faced the soul memories and forgiven the experience. So, I continue to be influenced by asthma in my present life. Even without diving in and addressing my feelings in those past lifetimes (likely fear, anger, sadness, betrayal, etc.), I can say that I have been mastering my forgiveness for those past life experiences. It is no coincidence that my asthma has been severely improving since doing so.
In one of Dr. Brian Weiss’s sessions with a client, a female was trying to hide herself and her child from a tribal invasion, and she covered the baby’s mouth with her hand to stop it from crying, essentially killing her own baby and living with that guilt. She found that same “baby” in this present lifetime when she was a nurse and was treating a man for severe asthma – treating the same ailment she caused to this person, accidentally, ergo, healing this karmic debt. Further, proof of interconnectedness is that the baby had a half-moon birthmark on its shoulder blade. Meeting this patient years down the line from her regression, he had the same birthmark. These things are intentional and trigger our soul memories. They are happily married now.
Everyone has a theme in their present life; narrowing it down is essential to navigating all the lessons (and people) you will face. Perhaps, like me, it is forgiveness. Maybe it’s abandonment, disappointment, struggle, anger, etc.. Only you know the answer to that, but if you’re unsure, you can always ask for it to be made more clear. You can do this through:
– Dreams: Before you go to bed, ask for your Soul Team (guides, angels, ancestors, Source) to clarify your life lesson/theme in your dreams; be sure to write everything you remember as you wake. It may take several nights for it to be clarified, and you may not remember until you’ve written it all down and reviewed it.
– Automatic Writing: Sit down with a pen and paper. Write, I wish my life lesson for this present lifetime to be made clear to me. Write without abandon; do not doubt anything that comes as a reply. Do not think twice.
– Meditation: Of course, a really great way to access answers to these big soul questions is through meditation. This can even be done as you are going to sleep because we cross the aether when we are in an Alpha state. I recorded a very powerful guided meditation last year, which may help you get the answers you seek.
– Past Life Regression Therapy: Nothing is more sure, tried, tested, and true than past life regression therapy. I’ve done it. It’s mind-blowing while also being exceptionally calming and harmonizing. I did past life regression therapy to address, understand, and release a specific relationship, over Zoom with Margot Borden.
For example, individuals who obsessively mourn over the body loss of their relatives and who selfishly hold onto the idea of, “but I needed you, and you abandoned me,” approach this lesson from a place of fear rather than Love. The lesson is abandonment. This is a lesson they have had in many lifetimes before and will need to learn again with the same person (and likely many other people in their present life, as well). They have lost that person before; as their child, as their brother in arms, as their sister, as their partner, as their parental figure, etc.. By not approaching this lesson with a lens of Love, “I forgive you for leaving too soon; it is not my soul story to control, and I know you await me in the aether,” you’ve released the karmic bonds tied to abandonment that you shared, and you are free from this lesson with that person. And if you can learn this soul lesson with one person in your present life, you can do it with any!
I am quite proud of my mastery of forgiveness in this lifetime. Despite the intensity of my forgiveness, boundaries are, of course, important. You can learn a lesson in your lifetime while still maintaining boundaries; in fact, it’s essential.
For example, I set boundaries with narcissists I have forgiven; some I no longer welcome into my life or energy sphere, others I can live alongside while ensuring I do not become their supply (energetic source for narcissists). For friends who have hurt me, some I will not welcome back into my life because they were a (low) karmic lesson I have no desire to repeat in future lifetimes, others I would because they are a soul family and I have severed the energetic bonds that kept us (both) trapped. For my sexual assailant (a former friend) who admitted he thought I was interested (wanted it) but still left not-guilty from the courtroom where I faced him, I forgive him wholely and completely; so much so that I could meet him on the street and send him that love and forgiveness in passing. I am entirely disconnected from that karma we shared, and I will never meet him again, not even in the aether. I am sure the theme of forgiveness is tied to my asthma. I’m sure the theme of forgiveness will appear in other parts of my life as it continues, as well.
I believe understanding that central theme of your present life is the best foundational place to begin to navigate your soul’s entire journey through space and time. It has shaped who you are, who you have relationships with, and how you face adversity. It will continue to shape future lives if it is not mastered in this life.
Whether you believe in past lives or an afterlife, denying your personal energy and an overarching theme is difficult. Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living,” so, spiritual or not, you need to examine your life carefully under an objective lens and identify that theme – and Master it. By mastering your mind (how you face this theme), you master yourself and you master your life. It is essential to living a fulfilled, harmonized life. And it doesn’t require belief to do it and to see the results.
What do you think the theme of your life might be? Let me know in the comments.

[…] Forgiveness has been the central theme of my lifetime. It was clarified to me many moons ago by my spiritual advisor, Carol, at Akasha’s Den in Oakville, Ontario. She mentioned that going to Paris would really trigger this theme, and she was right, as a lot of healing and transformation came from following my path without reservation and trusting myself as I walked it. I believe that forgiveness is likely a central theme for many folks reading this blog, or perhaps is a crucial element to whatever focus they have for this soul incarnation. Forgiveness holds the energy of Love, which is the Source/God energy, and this is the complete opposite of our human fear/Ego. Forgiveness, essentially, brings us closer to God. […]

[…] Jordan is my Divine Soulmate; I knew the minute I saw him and confirmed it spiritually within 20 minutes of talking to him. I told many people the next day that I had found my (Divine) soulmate. Everything settled in me, and I knew I had found a piece of home. That’s what finding a Divine Soulmate feels like. When it comes to our Divine Soulmate, you’re usually given insight into “how to find them” which is what gives that love at first sight meeting. While I never have really had a “type,” I was always drawn to big hands and honey eyes. Jordan always said he would find a woman who was foreign, with dark hair, light eyes, and tattoos.
