Spiritual Signs & Double Yolk Eggs: Lessons from Chickens and Ostara

Blessings, beautiful souls —

This blog will be a little all over the place today; just a digital dumping ground for a lot of what’s going on in my mind and how it’s going with my personal curriculum. Let’s begin there:

What’s Working and What’s Not Working with my Digital Curriculum

  • I finished one book on my reading list: Reconnected: How 7 Screen-Free Weeks with Monks and Amish Farmers Helped Me Recover the Lost Art of Being Human by Carlos Whittaker – I linked my review. Disappointing, in essence, and I am quite unsure how to use a disappointing book in a meaningful and applicable way (this is the part about personal curricula that I do not understand).
  • Some books are still in transit despite me needing to be reading them, right now. (Whoops!)
  • One book from my reading list quickly became a DNF (Did Not Finish) – The Only Gaijin in the Village: A Year Living in Rural Japan by Iain Maloney.
  • Other than the very hands-on guidance with journaling, I do not feel like this is any different than my day-to-day reading and writing, and it’s hard to stay on track or motivated when I am my own boss. It doesn’t really feel much like being in school (which I love and miss), because I don’t hold myself as accountable with the scheduling as I maybe should (I have bebes, so there’s only so much I can do).

Spiritual Lessons My Chickens are Teaching Me

One of the items on my personal curriculum was daily journaling about the observations of my new chickens. I began this the day I got my chickens and before designing my personal curriculum, and it’s been a joy to write about these little buggers. I am absolutely obsessed with them, and have even engineered some alterations on their coop to encourage laying (they still haven’t laid eggs, but it can sometimes take a month before they are comfortable in a new environment and laying) and to deter roosting in the nest boxes. It’s truly brought out the little DIY farmer in me.

They are so spirited and wonderful. Did you know that chickens can see ultraviolet light? Their eyesight is essentially capable of viewing auras. I find that, through their antics and through caring for them, I am gaining a lot of spiritual insight. I decided to start tracking these insights, so here are a few:

01
Sometimes, you need to bite the hand that feeds you – just in case something more abundant is hiding there and waiting to drop.

02
Feeling safe and comfortable at home isn’t missing out on life; it’s not taking your abundance for granted.

03
Sometimes it’s difficult to understand that the Universe wants the best for you when it feels cruel, overwhelming, or uncomfortable in the moment. Results are often only seen and felt when we give them time to settle.

04
We don’t need to go looking for the gifts of the Universe; they’re waiting for us as soon as we wake, each day, if we walk into the morning with utmost trust and confidence.

05
Rest is not a waste of time, it’s a gift. Take it.

06
Hens vs. Hustle Culture

Hens don’t fight their natural cycles; they surrender to them. They don’t hustle or force themselves to make a nourishing egg; they eat, rest, explore (their version of being creative), and when it comes, it comes.

When industrial egg farms put hens under stress to hustle and produce eggs, what happens? They are overworked and produce smaller and less nourishing eggs, their egg cycle shortens, and they’re sacrificed for meat farms for their “failure to produce efficiently.” The patriarchy shoves them into an environment that defines how their production (success) should look, and that runs them totally dry and essentially renders them useless more quickly.

Hustle culture is a lie sold to us as “productivity.” The patriarchy doesn’t want us to fall into our natural rhythm because the mentality that we have been working from and taught keeps us in a state of despair and disillusionment (fight or flight) – and keeps their pockets full.

A woman’s natural state is one of gentleness and rest – and you can still be productive while resting. Look at hens!

Signs From The Universe & Ostara

Have you ever cracked an egg you bought from the store and found two yolks? Have you ever cracked three eggs and found two yolks in every one? Incredible luck, or a message for me from the Universe as we sit on the horizon of Ostara, a celebration of spring that revolves around eggs? It’s truly beyond lucky, so let’s break down some of the potential meanings of this:

  • Egg as an Ancient symbol: In ancient Egypt, creation myths describe the world emerging from a primordial egg laid in the waters of chaos. In Hindu cosmology, the Brahmanda (cosmic egg) contained all existence before creation unfolded. In Greek Orphic tradition, a silver egg birthed the first god of creation. Eggs have always been symbols of life beginning, where everything begins in a contained, unseen state before it becomes visible.
  • Double Yolk Symbolism: Amplified abundance, unexpected luck and blessings, duality coming into harmony (male/female, inner/outer, spiritual/material, etc.).
  • Eggs as Symbols of Fertility: I am not pregnant (and, after this sign, trust me, will not allow any opportunity to become pregnant – lol), but fertility goes beyond the physical. Fertility is also tied to life paths, ideas, the creative aspect of the self (the Sacral Chakra)… Perhaps I am about to birth a portal of creative energy, or maybe my spiritual business has planted seeds, they are about to blossom, and I will soon be able to reap the harvest of those seeds. Or maybe I am being told by the Universe: anything I am ready to grow will flourish, so what am I ready to grow?
  • The Symbolism of Three: A Divine number tied to creation, manifestation, Alignment, God… This was not only shown to me three times so I wouldn’t miss it, but also with amplified intention.

There is an amplified version of potential (double yolks) repeated three times at a seasonal turning point (Ostara, a time in the year that is focused on eggs); perhaps something within my life is about to expand (Abundance) beyond its usual scale. But I always remind the Universe: I like to serve the Collective, I like to change lives with my services and my books, I love when more people find me and are drawn to work with me, or find peace within my pages, but I do not, ever, under any circumstances, want to be famous. I’ll let the Universe draw the line when it comes to business and authorship Abundances vs. famous, so there’s a nice happy medium there.

I noticed an unusual abundance of “contained potential” at the exact time of year when potential typically begins to unfold. But I have a really hard time reading into this in a way that helps me better understand what it means for myself. I’m really good at reading things for others! I am always blocked when it comes to myself – but that’s intentional. We are not meant to be able to read or see beyond everything when it comes to ourselves, because our Ego is too heavily attached to our own path. I’ve decided to put it all here in the hopes that a spiritual person reading might feel inclined to pick up on any whispers or unravel the mystery for me, and might comment or email me about it. The door is open – what do you think it might mean for me?

At the end of all of this (unfinished books, slow living with chickens, resistance to structure, and three unexpected double yolks on the horizon of Ostara), I find myself landing somewhere quieter than I expected. Not in certainty, but in awareness. Maybe not everything is meant to be decoded, optimized, or turned into a lesson plan. Maybe not all books are meant to be read. Maybe some things are simply meant to be noticed. If there is something expanding in my life, something waiting to take shape, I trust that it will reveal itself in its own time, just as naturally as a hen lays when she’s ready! And until then, I’ll keep observing, writing, and leaving space for whatever is quietly becoming…
