I recently read an article titled, “Americans under 30 are so miserable that the U.S. just fell to a historic low ranking in the annual World Happiness Report” and immediately, without even diving in, I said aloud to myself, is anyone surprised?
North America, especially the United States, is saturated with exceptionally young souls right now, many of them entrapped in Ego. This is due to a few factors: being the first generation raised with internet from birth and access to social media, the endemic that trapped them when they were just beginning to step into their adulthood, an obsession with “uniqueness” and desperation to “be different” (division vs. Collective unity), and their fragility (Ego) and inability to confront anyone or anything with opposing ideas with an energy of peace and acceptance. This is the reality of young people today, but particularly young North Americans/Americans.
In fact, the article also states, ““It’s the fact that people are increasingly on their own, isolated, their political thinking, their theories around life and society, are no longer tested by others … In our echo chambers, we develop these notions that others are to be distrusted, and we mistrust others, and migrants eat cats and dogs, all that kind of stuff. And as a result, we start believing these things. And the way we’ve picked up on that is really acute.”” This absolutely aligns with what I mentioned above, and should worry folks. People would rather isolate themselves to an echo chamber of ideas that feeds their fear than be open to finding unity with “the other” and recognizing we are all an fraction of Source, itself.
Young people, trapped in a Universe of Ego, don’t recognize that we come on this planet not to serve ourselves, not to be infatuated with ourselves and seek external validation through that infatuation, not to hustle ourselves until we are bone dry and have nothing left to give – only finding our worth in the next item taken off of our checklist – but through service to the planet and to the world. And that’s not achieved through performative social justice, through “canceling” others you don’t like, through smear campaigns and doxxing, through bullying anyone on the internet who thinks differently than you, votes differently than you, has different views of reality than you.
The only way to serve is through compassion – through the energy of joy, of Love – ultimately, the energy of Source, itself. Not from a place of fear, anger, or hate. All that does is feed the portal of nefarious players and does nothing to bring you a sense of happiness in life, and does nothing to better the world or the Collective.
Young people will continue to be unhappy if the thing they value the very most in life is how different, more special, and better they are than everyone else. That’s just Ego. And Ego, we know, gets us no where.
