Tools in spiritual practice are not essential to living a spiritual life, but they bring focused and mindful guidance along your life path. That being said, the opposite can sometimes be true: if, guided by Ego or fear, you feel you must do it all, have it all, and learn it all, you essentially are living a flavour-of-the-week spirituality with no consistency and no tool that resonates specifically for you.
You may be called to specific spiritual tools because you grew up around them, because they have ties to your ancestral culture, you feel a past life connection with the item(s), or you just feel drawn to work with them. Whatever the reason, using tools in your spiritual practice is a private affair which means you do what resonates with you, not what you think you need to do to be a “successful” spiritual person.
I’m going to share with you a list of my favourite spiritual tools in my own practice, as well as let you know some tools that I stay away from.
The tools I prefer are of Light and are used with the intention of Love. They resonate at a high frequency, and they are not used in any fear-based manner. My tools are for me and my practice and I do not use them to control other people; you fill find many tools in the esoteric world that try and do the latter.
Immediately, I must mention that I do not spellcast. I do not try and use elementals or voodoo to manipulate others or outcomes. That is dark practice, and while I believe in manifesting intentions and the like, an attempt to manipulate outcomes is an Ego need for control and a lack of trust in the Universe. In my opinion, it may sometimes work out for you but not without karmic consequences – usually ones of regret and be careful what you wish for.
Voodoo or Hoodoo has no place in my house and home, neither does the calling on dark entities to help with manifestation or protection. Just writing that down had me clearing my space with blessing spray. I also don’t watch shows with incantations to Satan because, believe me, that dark entity exists, and I don’t find anything surrounding him to be entertaining.
Let’s dive into my favourites…
CRYSTALS
Crystals top the charts for me because they’re ancient technology. They were used as power Sources and healing tools in Atlantis and Lemuria. The energy and frequency from these beautiful tools cannot be denied, and they truly help with all aspects of your spiritual practice. I use crystals for meditation or for my healing work. I also have crystals all around my house, charging up my space. Remember that crystals need to be recharged or cleared by placing them near Quartz or Amethyst or by using sage, smoke, setting them in salt or palo santo. Be careful when using water to cleanse your crystals because some will break down in water!

ORACLE CARDS
I love oracle cards. Even though I’ve been a Tarot Reader for over 24 years, I prefer oracle cards. So, what’s the difference? Well, oracle cards and their meaning are up to the artist and the writer behind the deck. They are hyper-focused on a theme or need (like moon phases, manifestation, past life healing, etc.), can be any size, shape, or art style, and they offer messages of guidance, reflection, or insight specific to that need. I always end up journaling about my pulls, but I also just love to flip through the cards and feel the love and light in certain decks. My current favourites are my newest decks: Crystal Sound Healing Oracle and Starcodes Astro Oracle.
TAROT DECKS
That being said, I do love my Tarot! Tarot has 78 cards and follows the same standard across every deck: 22 Major Arcana cards for big events and life experiences and 56 Minor Arcana cards to help unravel those experiences and the karmic learning within them. Tarot cards aren’t dark unless they’re used for dark, and they don’t tell the future. They just help you unravel the best spiritual path for your learning and growth. I designed my own Tarot deck called the Rider Waite Renewed deck (but it’s sold out; it can be found online via resellers through marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace or Etsy) and it’s my favourite for reading others. My favourite for personal readings varies by my mood.
INCENSE, SAGE, and PALO SANTO
I use these tools to cleanse my space, cleanse myself (and family members), cleanse decks, and cleanse crystals. Essentially, they can be used to cleanse just about anything! Smoke is a powerful tool for clearing negative or stagnant energy. Whenever I light a stick of incense, I do so with intention (eg. May today be a joyful day. May today be an Abundant day. May this clear any stagnant energy in my space. etc.). The bonus is the beautiful smell, of course! Find something that stands out to you. My current incense favourite is Patchoulli Forest, which makes my house smell like an esoteric shop!
FLOWER ESSENCES AND ESSENTIAL OILS
Flower essences and essential oils are very different from one another, but I’ve categorized them together because they both derive from plants but differ in their extraction processes and uses.
Flower essences are made by infusing flowers in water and capturing their energetic properties. They address emotional and spiritual imbalances, helping to shift one’s vibration and promote emotional healing. You ingest flower essences.
Essential oils, on the other hand, are highly concentrated plant extracts obtained through distillation, offering physical and aromatic benefits. They used in aromatherapy for their healing properties, affecting mood and physical well-being. I use them in diffusers but some people use them topically (ingestion is not recommended).
Flower essences are VERY powerful, and are ancient tools as well. Essential oils are beautiful companions to spiritual living. If I could suggest one over the other, it would be Flower Essences, without question, as it truly shifts your entire vibration and you can feel it immediately. In spiritual practice, flower essences can be used for enhancing meditation, balancing chakras, or aiding emotional clarity. They work on a subtle, energetic level to support spiritual growth and healing. Essential oils, meanwhile, are often diffused, applied topically, or used in ritual work to cleanse spaces, uplift energy, or deepen connection with spirit guides. Both offer natural support for emotional and spiritual alignment.
Flower Essences can be used during pregnancy while essential oils should not be used topically during pregnancy.
PENDULUMS
A pendulum is a tool that helps in dowsing or divination, guiding users through yes/no questions or energy readings. Using a pendulum in spiritual practice enhances intuition, offering direct access to inner guidance. It helps clarify decisions, gain insights, and read energy fields, promoting self-awareness, alignment, and deeper trust in one’s spiritual journey. It is also a tool I have recently begun to use with clients for Soul Alignment Sessions, helping identify blocked or overactive Chakras. In France, pendulums are quite popular and there are many books with hundreds of pages of pendulum boards to check anything from energetic alignment, to what flower essence you should take, to what you should stop eating.
Do not allow children to play with pendulums.
SINGING BOWLS
In the dreams of my future, I will have a beautiful, giant crystal singing bowl. In the meantime, I have tiny Tibetan ones. But singing bowls are fantastic for sound healing. They create vibrations that clear energy, aid meditation, and balance chakras.
TUNING FORKS
I love tuning forks even more than singing bowls – mostly because of how portable they are! The first time one was used on me during a sound healing session, I knew I had to get myself one. The vibrations and energetic intensity of these tools are phenomenal. I use them for a little “energetic tune up” or to clear my space.
JOURNALS AND BOOKS
Journals and books are tools to help your spiritual growth and wisdom of understanding. They allow you to access the knowing of others and dive in deep into the wisdom hidden within you to uncover greater Truth and understanding about the spiritual world. Books and journals will be an infinite tool in my spiritual toolkit.
Ultimately, the tools you use in your spiritual practice are deeply personal and unique to your journey. There is no right or wrong, only what resonates with your spirit and elevates your growth. Always remember that your intuition is your most powerful tool, guiding you toward what feels aligned. Whether you choose crystals, cards, flower essences, or any other tool, the intention behind your use is what matters most. Any tool can become negative if it is used with fear or the use is guided by your Ego. Honor your path, choose light, and feel out what tool calls to you.
